The refuge is situated in the little valley of “Campo Pericoli”, in the hearth  of  the “National Park of the Gran Sasso and Mounts of the Laga”. From the refuge you can reach the summit of the “Corno Grande” in approximately two hours and a half and also find lots of wall, ski-alpinism and trekking possibilities in the outskirtses.

The Giuseppe Garibaldi refuge has an exceptional historical value, being constructed in 1886. Even if it has been restructured three times, its structure is still the original one so the refuge has remained severe: sleeping places are in a large room, there are no water sources and the electric power is produced through a photovoltaic panel.

Opened from June to September (other periods for groups of at least of 6 persons – reservation required).

From the beginning of the winter until the first weeks of April the refuge is totally covered by the snow. When it is not managed a room is always open on the the west side; inside there are four metallic folding beds and a wooden loft with room for others three/four people. During the winter to enter the refuge a shovel is necessary; the entrance, located on the roof ( the so called “step of man”), is closed with a padlock
